But not because I believe in anything these people will be trying to assert. I want to go because I've always wanted to go to one of these pseudo-science conferences, just to see what it is like. This costs $50, and is only a couple of hours away from me; at the Hilton Garden Inn in South Bend, Indiana. I HAVE TO WITNESS THIS.
Geocentrism is particularly ridiculous; it is the belief that our planet does not move at all, it stays at a fixed point in space, at the center of the universe. Everything else revolves around the planet Earth. This, of course, is not the case. Instead, our planet orbits around the sun, hurtling through our orbit at over 67,000 miles an hour whilst simultaneously spinning like a top at an angle at 783 miles per hour (in Chicago, anyway). Our sun and solar system is moving too. Everything is spinning and moving and falling towards each other and away from each other in the universe, and just thinking about it is amazing. I probably didn't need to explain this to you.
But I will say this about geocentrism; there is a certain elegance to the idea that the Earth could be at a fixed point in space, with everything else orbiting it. If it turned out that is how the universe worked, it's not like that wouldn't be amazing either. The Earth, at the center of it all, kept in line and free from harm by God, or something. There is a beauty to that. And I can understand why, in the past this may have been accepted truth, because perceptually and realistically, the Earth very much IS the center of our universe. Very few people get to even leave Earth.
????????????????????????????????
But unfortunately, I'll never get to feel what it is like to live in a geocentric universe, because that is clearly not the universe we live in. Nasa addresses the issue here.
Let's assume for a moment though that I didn't understand the Universe, and was open to geocentric possibilities. I don't think Robert Sungenis (also known as Bible Bob, see video below), a racist Catholic apologist (that the Catholic Church doesn't even want to associate with) would really be the type of person who would really convince me that the Sun orbits our planet. The Southern Poverty Law Center even has a file on this guy. After looking him up on Youtube, it seems like he regularly participates in debates on thrilling topics, from "Purgatory: Fact or Fiction", "Father Knows Best" and the infallibleness of the Bible. There are multitudes of these videos available.

But still, I think I'm going to go to this conference. How could I not with this exciting line up? Check it out:
Dr Robert Sungenis: Geocentrism: They Know It But They're Hiding It
THE NATURE OF THE UNIVERSE IS A CONSPIRACY, YOU GOTTA BELIEVE US IT'S THE SCIENCE INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX
Mr Mark Wyatt: Introduction to the Mechanics of Geocentrism
Here, I will learn the physics of how the universe orbits Earth, I think.
Dr Robert Bennett: Scientific Experiments Showing Earth Motionless in Space
I hope these are experiments which can be conducted in front of my eyes. Oh, how I would love to be baffled by experiments which probably won't make any sense.
Msr Rick/Wyn Delano: Scientific Evidence: Earth in the Center of the Universe
I am very excited to see this evidence!
Dr Gerry Bouw: The Biblical Firmament: Outer Space is Not Empty
It, what? It's not? It's, heaven? Is that it??
Dr Robert Sungenis: Galileo and the Church: What Really Happened?
Yes, please, please tell me what really happened.
Mr John Salza, Esq: The Fathers and Exegesis of Scripture on Geocentrism
Dr E Michael Jones: English Ideology, Newton & the Exploitation of Science
Yes, Newton and all the rest of the "scientists" exploiting science all for themselves!
Mr Hugh Miller: Carbon 14 & Radiometric Dating Show Young Earth
Right! The Sun orbits the Earth and was created by God 10,000 years ago!
Man, am I looking forward to this conference. It's on November 6th, in Indiana; only a two hour drive from Chicago! Living in the north east, I have always wanted to go to some bizarre pseudo-science conference, but most of the good ones were always inaccessible. Until now!
I will give my full report.
Finally, please get whatever enjoyment you can out of this video of Dr Robert Sungenis on the topic of the "Holy Sacrament of the Masses
Actually, there are two recently discovered asteroids that are going to pass close to Earth on Wednesday, 9/8/2010. Both discovered on 9/5/2010 by astronomer Andrea Boattini in Arizona, they are expected to fly closer to earth then the Moon.
two asteroids have a date within earth's orbit
2010 RX30, estimated at 32 - 65 feet in diameter, will pass within 154,000 miles of Earth at 4:51 CST* am on Wednesday, with a 1 in 1000 chance of smashing into earth. Then, 12 hours later at 4:12 CST pm on 9/8, the 23 ft across 2010 RF12 will fly even closer, within 47,845 miles, stands a 1 in 50 chance of smashing into our planet.
Both are certainly small enough that there is little risk to the planet at all. They should just burn up in the atmosphere. It's a little weird though. Even after watching the mesmerizing Youtube video time lapse of asteroid discoveries made in the last 30 years, and seeing just how teeming our system is with asteroids, it still seems a little too cosmically convenient.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was another assassination attempt on Radivoke Lajic, the Bosnian man whose home has been hit six times by meteorites.
"I am obviously being targeted by extraterrestrials," Lajic said. "I don't know what I have done to annoy them but there is no other explanation that makes sense. The chance of being hit by a meteorite is so small that getting hit six times has to be deliberate."
Yeah, that is highly improbable. That's kind of like randomly discovering that two asteroids on separate trajectories were going to pass within the Moon's orbit of the planet Earth within 12 hours of each other. Watch out, Lajic.
This video is pretty amazing to watch. It is like watching the evolution of one aspect of human understanding take place in a visual vortex that gets stronger and stronger and faster and faster as time moves along. An ever increasing pattern of knoweldge. Or something.
The data used to create this video is publicly available here.
flying over europe when the clock strikes a new year is something i'm pretty sure everyone should do once. the earth several miles below you explodes with twinkling light, like a stadium full of excited people lighting up with camera flashes. except instead of cameras, the twinkling light comes from fireworks.
people smoke anywhere they want in kuwait. in the airport and shopping mall, there are large visible no smoking signs, with people walking around smoking right below them. i don't get the feeling as if people are smoking with a defiant feeling about the signs, more like they're not sure of any other way to walk around.
this is apparently the hottest place on earth that is inhabited with a large city, but at this time of year it's windy and chilly and you need a jacket to walk around.
